Hey all, It’s that time of year when all the haunts arrive for the Halloween season! Today I’d like to mention a great haunt operation out of Fremont Ohio, that is also celebrating their 36th Anniversary this year. Before we get into the review, here is some general information for those who live in the area
What is The Haunted Hydro?
The Haunted Hydro is a haunted attraction (haunted house / horror experience) located at 1333 Tiffin Street, Fremont, Ohio. It’s built in and around a former hydroelectric power plant (dating back to the early 1900s). They operate during the Halloween / fall season, offering multiple “haunts” (indoor, outdoor, woods, etc.), with different themes (“Fog Harbor,” “The Void,” “Wasteland,” etc.). They describe themselves as “one of the top haunted attractions in the country” and “northwest Ohio’s longest running and most authentic Haunted House.
How does Haunted Hydro do ticketing?
The Haunted Hydro traction uses timed ticketing, “fast pass” or “front of line” upgrades to manage wait times.
What are Haunted Hydro’s attractions in 2025?
Namely 2 attractions:
Fog Harbor
A brand-new outdoor trail. Guests will walk through woods and along the river, where “terror” lurks in the fog, with the smell of death lingering.
The Hydro Complex (sometimes referred to as “The Void”)
Inside the old hydroelectric plant. Features twisted experiments, fractured storylines, and the mind of the Hydro Curator (Edison Bates) manifesting horrors inside the structure’s 44-ft tall walls.
In addition, the attraction features:
Wasteland
A toxic, abandoned portion of the plant’s grounds, filled with environmental decay, leaking barrels, and industrial ruin. Expect “toxic playground” vibes. They also offer the Extreme Upgrade, For those who want a more intense scare: extra effects like blood/mess, physical contact, group separation
Haunted Hydro’s 2025 ticket pricing (as listed on their site) is:
General Admission: $24.99 to $29.99
Fast Pass (skip general line): + $15 over General Admission price
Front of the Line (skip both general & fast lines): + $35 over General Admission price
Also, there is a $5 per car load fee benefiting the Ohio Safety Team
REVIEW:
The team at Haunted Hydro extended a special invitation to Horrornews.net to attend their haunts this year. As a new resident of Ohio, we jumped at the chance to experience what people were talking about.
For starters, Haunted Hydro was extremely accommodating, friendly, and professional every step of the way. They even offered us a “first in line” package which meant no wait time to experience their on-site attractions.
Every attendee has the option to upgrade to a fast-pass-style package, allowing them to skip long wait times — much like the VIP option at popular theme parks. The attractions themselves are impressively designed, featuring detailed sets, immersive props, and a well-paced walkthrough that feels substantial and worth the price of admission.
Because the organizers do their best to manage crowd flow, I recommend paying the extra fee for quicker entry — it noticeably improves the experience. Between groups, several costumed actors roam the grounds, keeping things lively and entertaining with spontaneous, in-character interactions. It’s clear the cast and crew genuinely enjoy what they do, and their enthusiasm adds a great deal of charm and humor to the event.
A food truck on-site provides reasonably priced meals and snacks, offering a few tasty options to refuel between scares.
New visitors will immediately be drawn into the atmosphere — the distant screams, eerie sound effects, and roaming monsters all help create a convincing haunted environment. A special shout out goes to the actors, who maintain impressive energy and intensity throughout the night. Their commitment helps make the entire experience that much more memorable and enjoyable.
Parking is well managed, with several attendants directing traffic efficiently to ensure a smooth arrival and exit.
When it comes to the haunts themselves, The Haunted Hydro makes excellent use of walk-through trailers, creative set pieces, and its natural surroundings to deliver an experience that feels far more immersive than the typical mall-style haunt. Each section offers something distinct, keeping guests engaged and curious about what’s coming next.
Among the additional attractions is a tarot reading station — a surprisingly accurate and entertaining stop for anyone interested in a touch of the mystical. For those seeking a more hands-on challenge, there’s also an optional escape room experience available for an extra fee, perfect for visitors who enjoy solving puzzles and testing their detective skills.
All in all, my night at The Haunted Hydro was one I won’t soon forget. From the moment I pulled into the lot and heard the distant screams drifting through the fog, I knew I was in for something special. The sets, the actors, the energy — everything felt thoughtfully crafted and full of heart. It’s the kind of haunt where you can tell everyone involved genuinely loves what they do, and that passion shows in every scare and laugh along the way.
If you’re looking for a place that blends classic Halloween fun with impressive creativity, make the trip. Bring a few friends, grab the fast-pass upgrade, and let yourself dive into the chaos and charm that make The Haunted Hydro such a standout. Trust me — it’s the kind of experience that reminds you why haunted attractions are such a blast in the first place.
