When people think of Rob Zombie’s most divisive output, I suspect many call to mind his Halloween remake or his satanic fever dream, The Lords of Salem. Those both fit the bill, but I think his take on The Munsters is actually every bit as polarizing as either of those features. There are people who absolutely love it, praising the picture as a charming tribute, while others are decidedly less enthusiastic.

Like most of Zombie’s films, you really can’t know how it will sit with you until you watch it. If you’re up for the assignment, you can find The Munsters streaming on Netflix, but not for long. That’s right, the streamer is pulling the flick from the platform soon. Your last day to experience The Munsters on Netflix is September 26, 2025.

What is the setup for Rob Zombie’s The Munsters?

Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie) is a typical 150-year-old lovelorn vampire who’s looking for the man of her nightmares — until she lays her eyes on Herman (Jeff Daniel Phillips), a 7-foot-tall green experiment with a heart of gold. It’s love at first shock as these two ghouls fall fangs over feet for each other in a Transylvanian romance. Unfortunately, it’s not all smooth sailing in the cemetery as Lily’s father (Daniel Roebuck) has other plans for his beloved daughter’s future, and they don’t involve her new bumbling beau.

You’ve probably heard some of the negative fan sentiments regarding the film, but I’m here to assure you that there are quite a few who actually connected with it. Some really appreciate the aesthetic, while others admire Zombie‘s reverence for the source material. Others still consider the film a staple of the spooky season.

What’s more, Zombie even incorporates a number of nods to the original series. Case in point: Butch Patrick (who originally played Eddie) and Pat Priest (who featured as Marilyn) each appear in a voice cameo. Patrick features as The Tin Can Man, and Priest can be heard as the announcer for Transylvania Airlines.

My post Halloween thought remains this: when will the world catch up to how Rob Zombie’s The Munsters (2022) is the perfect classic Halloween movie? Feels like it was made with so much love.

Finally, we watch “The Munsters” (2022). So many people talk so much crap about this, but I think its my favorite film. @RobZombie nails it. Spooky, silly, blended with punkrock attitude. This ain’t yer pappy’s Munsters. I love those too, and rewatch often. This is fresh and fun. pic.twitter.com/I5cz9ayOe1
