The Legend of Hei II premiered in China in July 18 and opened in North America on September 5. It will open in Japan on November 7 JST. The Hanmu Chunhua-produced title is the sequel to 2019’s The Legend of Hei, which was inspired by the 2011 Flash animation series The Legend of Luo Xiaohei. GKIDS’ description of the new movie reads:
When an attack shatters the fragile peace between the spirit world and humanity, Hei teams up with Luye, the last disciple of his Shifu Wuxian, to expose a conspiracy that threatens both realms – and the bond they’ve sworn to protect.
With gorgeous, hand-drawn animation from directors MTJJ and Gu Jie, The Legend of Hei 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2019 feature The Legend of Hei, delivering an emotional and action-packed story that will resonate with audiences new and returning.
The Legend of Luo Xiaohei was created by Zhang Ping, or MTJJ.
