Filmmaker Colin Minihan began his career as a music video director before transitioning to feature films. Since making that pivot, he has consistently delivered high-quality indie horror content. He co-directed the cult classic found footage film Grave Encounters in 2011 and later helmed the unnerving survival horror picture What Keeps You Alive. Despite a track record of putting out quality content, Minihan hasn’t really broken out into the mainstream just yet. However, I think all of that might be about to change with his latest effort, Coyotes.
There are several reasons why I believe Coyotes may be a breakout hit for Minihan. For one, it features a recognizable cast of characters, including genre mainstay Justin Long and the great Kate Bosworth. Additionally, the picture is slated to play at the prestigious Fantastic Fest genre festival later this month, which will likely generate some positive word of mouth for the film.
Coyotes just debuted a trailer that promises an enticing blend of comedy and visceral horror. I laughed out loud a couple of times while I was watching it. If the preview is any indication, the film will deliver an outlandish good time.

If you enjoyed the trailer as much as I did, you’ll be pleased to learn that the film is slated for release next month. Following its Fantastic Fest screening, the film will bow in theaters on October 3, 2025.
The proceedings unfold in a luxe Hollywood Hills home, and follow a family who finds themselves under attack by a band of vicious coyotes. Making matters even more dire, they are also contending with a wildfire.
Bosworth and Long are joined by a supporting cast of characters that includes Katherine McNamara (of Shadowhunters fame), Brittany Allen (What Keeps You Alive), Mila Harris (No Exit), and Norbert Leo Butz (who you may remember from The Exorcist: Believer).
Minihan helms the film from a script co-written by Nick Simon and Tad Daggerhart. Simon previously took a writing credit on the Alexandre Aja-produced horror film The Pyramid, and Daggerhart may be familiar to action fans as the co-writer of The Expendables 4.
