Predator: Badlands has officially brought the franchise roaring back to life.
According to newly posted numbers, Dan Tractenberg’s film has attained the honour of being the highest grossing entry in the franchise.
Currently, Badlands sits at an impressive $174.5 million worldwide.
This trounces the series’ previous box-office high of $160.5 million, attained by 2016’s The Predator.
Of course, this isn’t factoring in the successful Alien Vs. Predator movies, which are considered spin-offs. Paul W. S. Anderson’s 2004 original still remains the most successful property featuring The Predator, grossing $177 million.
However, Badlands is very close to topping this total too, so, could we have a new overall champion soon?
Nevertheless, Badlands reportedly had a production budget of $105 million. Whilst it may seem the film is in profit, that doesn’t factor in the often-sizeable promotional budgets.
But, as we’ve previously reported, plans for a follow-up to Badlands are moving forward at 20th Century Studios.
Last we heard, Prey star Amber Midthunder confirmed that the cast of the prequel had been approached to return. This, alongside the news that original star Arnold Schwarzenegger is “in talks” to reprise his role, confirm that there’s a lot more life in Predator yet.
Should confirmation of a follow-up emerge, we’ll be here to bring you developments as they come in.
