Not every anime film gets to command the spotlight or make money the way Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc have this year. Kenji Iwaisawa‘s adaptation of Uoto‘s track and field manga 100 METERS isn’t among the exceptions, but it’s getting a chance to reach more eyes via Netflix, who will exclusively stream the movie starting on December 31.

100 METERS was featured at Annecy 2024 as part of the Work-in-Progress lineup and at Annecy 2025 as part of the Official Selection category. It was released in Japan on September 19 and received theatrical releases in international locations like the US, the UK, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. GKIDS describes the synopsis as such:
100 METERS follows Togashi, a track star who is born to run. As a kid, he is naturally gifted and wins every 100-meter race without effort. But in sixth grade, he meets Komiya, a transfer student who is full of determination but lacks technique. In teaching him, Togashi gives Komiya a new purpose: to win no matter what. Years pass by, and Togashi and Komiya meet again as rivals on the track and reveal their true selves.
The Kodansha-published manga was the first serialized title from Uoto, who would later create Orb: On the Movements of the Earth. Director Iwaisawa previously helmed musical comedy On–Gaku: Our Sound, about a trio of delinquents who suddenly become a band, and is also directing the upcoming Hina is Beautiful.
