KLE Society launches cervical cancer prevention campaign

KLE Society organised the first phase of KLE HPV Vaccination Initiative, a preventive healthcare programme aimed at reducing the future burden of cervical cancer through Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among adolescents and eligible beneficiaries.

KAHER Chancellor Prabhakar B. Kore and KLE Society Co-ordinator Preeti K. Doddwad launched the campaign on Tuesday.

The programme was implemented by Assistant Professor of Gynaecological Oncology, Department of Surgical Oncology, J.N. Medical College, KAHER, Belagavi, Swati S. Goudar, who is a Project Co-ordinator, KLE HPV Vaccination Initiative, with clinical support from Professor and Head, Department of Paediatrics, JNMC, Belagavi, Dnyanesh D. Kamble and Professor, Department of Paediatrics, KLE JGMM Medical College, Hubballi, Shriharsha Badiger.

Awareness and sensitization programmes were conducted across nine KLE Society schools in Belagavi, Hubballi, Dharwad, Nippani, Chikkodi and Ankali.

The student sensitization and education programme was supported by Deepti Kore and the Gulaab Seva Foundation, Bengaluru.

The programme enrolled a total of 589 beneficiaries, including 488 girls, 29 boys, and 72 adult women within eligible age groups for HPV vaccination, through a structured model integrating awareness generation, informed consent and vaccine administration.

The initiative utilized the Gardasil Quadrivalent HPV vaccine, a scientifically validated vaccine that provides protection against HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18. Vaccination was administered according to age-appropriate dosing schedules with beneficiaries completing the recommended vaccine doses over an implementation period extending from September 2025 to May 2026.

All vaccination sessions were conducted within the hospital premises of KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Belagavi, and KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Hubballi.

Medical Director, KLESPPHRC, Col. M. Dayanand, Administrator, Clinical Services, Rajashekar Somanatti and others were present.
