Just weeks after St. Joe’s named announced that Ashwin “Ash” Puri to be assumIng the role of the University’s new Vice President and Director of Athletics — and the 2026 Broad Street Runners sprinted near St. Joseph’s University — the Hawks were making history in a very different way.

The Hawks have been playing baseball for the University for 132 years since 1894. They qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 1971 and 1974. In 1982 — St. Joseph’s captured the East Coast Conference Eastern Division Title as well as an ECC1 Championship.

The Hawks Mens Baseball Team scored eight runs in the ninth inning against Rhode Island to win 14–12 — which concluded St. Joseph’s regular season. Amazingly — the Hawks responded with two outs in the ninth inning. With the bases loaded — St. Joseph’s scored five consecutive singles. Beggy then hit a thee-run home run to give the Hawks the lead.

The victory gives them the A10 Tournament Crown — with a University best-ever of 35–18 record. It’s also a conference record for total wins in a season. Catcher Blake Primrose has also set two school records with twenty home runs and sixty-five runs scored this season.

As the Number One Seed — St. Joseph’s will await the winner of the Wednesday game between George Mason and Rhode Island.
