Haddonfield ready for holiday season with tree lighting, small business Saturday

HADDONFIELD, N.J. (WPVI) — Pure holiday happiness was felt throughout downtown Haddonfield on Friday night for the annual tree lighting at Library Point and parade.

“The people, the warmth – it’s just happy. I love it,” said Vanessa Colon of Cherry Hill, N.J.

“It’s the momentum build to the holidays,” said Haddonfield Mayor Dave Siedell.

“It brings back really good memories when I was little opening presents,” said Norah.

For some residents, it’s their first year.

“Hopefully, we can start a little tradition. It’s three generations here,” said Dave Mendez of Cherry Hill. “We love the atmosphere.”

For others, they’re just here to see the big guy in red.

“Santa’s real,” said Norah.

“I think about getting a lot of presents. I really want a Switch 2,” said Max.

But Santa’s workshop isn’t the only place filled with toys for the good girls and boys.

“Everything in here is aimed to really have children engaging and learning and having fun,” said Michelle Gillen-Doobrajh, who owns Tildie’s Toy Box.

Tildie’s Toy Box on Kings Highway is prepared to open its doors for Small Business Saturday.

“Shopping local is so important for keeping the dollars in your community, and it also allows the small businesses in your area to stay in business,” said Gillen-Doobrajh.

Down the street, shoppers will discover one-of-a-kind gifts at Patricia of Mullica Hill. The family-owned business has been operating for more than 60 years.

“We also specialize in handmade products made locally. We employ over 100 local artists that you can see reflected in our store,” said Brad Lafferty, who co-owns Patricia of Mullica Hill.

Store owners hope customers come ready to spend, but most importantly, feel the magic of the holidays as they walk through the heart of Haddonfield.

“There’s just nothing like Haddonfield during the holidays. It’s like straight out of a Hallmark movie, and if you haven’t experienced it, this is the year you should. You won’t regret it,” said Lafferty.

This weekend is “Brunch big. Shop Small.” Doors open at 10 a.m. Parking is free through the new year.
