Faf du Plessis Skips IPL 2026 Auction After 14 Years, Eyes PSL Glory

Faf du Plessis has confirmed he will play in the upcoming PSL season after opting out of the IPL 2026 auction, marking the first time he skips the IPL in 14 years.

Du Plessis shared an emotional statement on social media, expressing gratitude for his IPL journey with teams like Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals, where he scored over 4,000 runs as one of the top overseas batters.

He was released by Delhi Capitals after scoring 202 runs in nine games during IPL 2025, but emphasized this is not a permanent goodbye, hinting at a potential return.

The decision stems from the scheduling overlap between IPL (March-May) and PSL (April-May), allowing him to prioritise the Pakistan Super League as a fresh challenge.

Du Plessis has prior PSL experience, with six matches for Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators from 2019-2021, and he looks forward to Pakistan’s hospitality and the league’s talent.

At 41, the former South Africa captain views this as an opportunity for growth in a new environment while keeping his T20 career active.

His move has generated buzz ahead of PSL 2026 draft preparations.
