Dread Central is proud to unveil a chilling exclusive clip from The Wailing. In the clip below, a young woman pleads with her father over a payphone, when her perception of reality is tested, and the most horrifying news you could learn disrupts her entire world.
Out now, the award-winning Spanish horror film in the vein of It Follows, comes directed by Pedro Martín-Calero, written by Isabel Peña, Pedro Martín-Calero and stars Ester Expósito, Mathilde Ollivier, & Malena Villa.
In the film, Andrea, a university student in present-day Madrid, lives a seemingly normal life, until one day when her boyfriend is killed in a shocking act of violence. She soon begins to notice a mysterious entity that follows her no matter where she turns.
Twenty years prior, Marie, a woman in Buenos Aires, suffered the same fate. Camila, a documentarian, learns of the threat these women faced, but no one will believe her. Across time and space, these three unconnected women are bound together by an inescapable terror in Martin-Calero’s feature film debut for which he was nominated for a Best New Director Goya Award in 2025.
In his 4-star review of the film out of Fantasia 2025, Dread’s associate editor Chad Collins wrote:
“The Wailing is one of the stronger Spanish-language horror movies this decade, and the merging of Hollywood horror sensibilities and the earnest austerity of most Spanish cinema should be more than sufficient to propel The Wailing to international success. You’ve maybe heard it before, but even the best among us can’t help but shudder when we hear a wailing in the dark.”
