Arvind Kejriwal breaks down after court clean chit in Delhi liquor policy case

After a Delhi court ordered Manish Sisodia’s bail in the Delhi excise policy scam case, an emotional Arvind Kejriwal broke down in front of cameras, saying he had earned only honesty through his hard work. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to topple governments for power, but to remain in office by serving the people.

“Court verdict is evidence of my innocence. Truth always wins,” Kejriwal said, breaking down and urging that the Constitution not be turned into a joke. He questioned why the BJP could not come to power by offering real solutions to issues such as corruption, unemployment and pollution, instead of trying to topple an elected government.

KEJRIWAL, SISODIA BREAK INTO EMOTIONAL HUG

Two years after Manish Sisodia was granted bail in the Delhi excise policy case, Arvind Kejriwal was left momentarily speechless. Struggling to find words, he removed his glasses, covered his eyes and broke down before cameras as supporters patted his shoulders and urged him to stay strong.

Sisodia, Kejriwal’s former deputy, stood beside him and pulled the AAP chief into an embrace. Emotional scenes unfolded outside the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court, with Kejriwal burying his face in Sisodia’s chest and breaking down in tears.

Earlier in the day, the court flagged a lack of evidence against Kejriwal, observing that serious allegations must be backed by material and that attributing a central conspiratorial role cannot be sustained without proof. It added that public confidence in constitutional offices is undermined when prosecution claims lack supporting evidence.

While discharging Sisodia, the court held that the prosecution’s case did not withstand judicial scrutiny and found no material indicating criminal intent on his part. It observed that the documents, read alongside witness statements, pointed to administrative deliberations rather than wrongdoing.

“The court has said that it meticulously went through all evidence produced by CBI and not a shred of allegation can be said to cross the threshold of charge. The court has discharged them, saying that there is no allegation which can be held to be true in this matter,” Kejriwal’s lawyer Vivek Jain told news agency ANI.

“The court has also said that the framing of the excise policy was done through institutional safeguards, and there cannot be any doubt on the mannerism and the way the policy has been framed,” he added.

With the recent development, the liquor policy case against Sisodia and Kejriwal has been closed for now due to what the court termed a “lack of evidence.”
