Bankstown stabbing: 27-year-old man charged following alleged assault in shopping centre

A man has been charged over an alleged stabbing inside a Sydney shopping centre.

Emergency services were called to Bankstown Central on Saturday around 2.30pm, after a 55-year-old man was found with a stab wound to his torso.

A short time later, a 27-year-old male was arrested nearby and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

He was charged with wounding a person with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and having a knife in a public place, NSW Police confirmed.

He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.

The 55-year-old man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a stable condition. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
