England’s Moeen Ali, the celebrated all-rounder, has announced his comeback to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after a four-year hiatus, ahead of the league’s major expansion to eight teams starting in 2026.
The PSL, which has earned a reputation for high-quality T20 cricket since its inception in 2016, is set to add two new franchises, enhancing the competitive landscape and reach across Pakistan.
An auction for these new teams is scheduled for January 6, 2026, with six cities shortlisted, including Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgit vying to host the franchises.
Moeen Ali, who previously played for Multan Sultans and represented England extensively, expressed excitement about returning to the league and praised the passionate crowds and top-level competition in Pakistan. This development coincides with other international stars like Faf du Plessis choosing PSL over IPL, reflecting the growing appeal of the league.
With PSL CEO Salman Naseer emphasising fan engagement strategies and new initiatives such as trophy tours and fan parks, the 2026 season promises heightened energy and national connection.
The expansion aims to maintain the league’s quality while reaching untapped cricket markets across the country, ensuring PSL remains a dynamic and beloved cricketing event.
