During a joint press conference with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was questioned about the recent rise in racist remarks against Indian residents in the United States.
As the question was posed, Jaishankar, standing adjacent to Rubio, flashed a brief, fleeting smile before quickly resuming serious composure.
Rubio, initially caught off guard, asked for clarification. Upon learning which comments were being referenced, he dismissed the creators of those remarks as ‘stupid people.’
“I will take that very seriously. I am sure that certain people made comments. They are stupid people. Every country has stupid people like them, Rubio was heard saying.
He asserted that the United States does not represent these people as the country is diverse and welcomes everyone to be a part of.
