Adelaide is heading into a cool, unsettled week, with showers on and off across the city for most of the next seven days and daytime temperatures hovering around the high teens.
Today will be the wettest start of the stretch, with cloudy skies and a very high chance of showers across Adelaide. The city is forecast to reach 18 degrees, with between 5 and 15mm possible, before rain becomes less likely this evening. Winds will begin from the north to northeast at 15 to 25km/h, tending north to northwesterly through the middle of the day before easing tonight.
Monday looks a little calmer, though not completely dry. Adelaide is heading for a partly cloudy day with a medium chance of a shower or two, and a top of 18 degrees after a cool morning low of 10. Winds will stay fairly light overall, becoming north to northeasterly in the morning before easing again around midday. It should feel a touch more settled than Sunday, but there’s still enough moisture around to keep conditions changeable.
By Tuesday, showers are expected to become more frequent again, especially later in the day. Adelaide will see a partly cloudy start, but the chance of rain lifts through the afternoon and evening, with a top of 19 degrees after an overnight minimum of 11. Wednesday follows a similar pattern, with cloudy skies, another high chance of showers, and a slightly warmer maximum of 20 degrees. Most of the wet weather is expected through the morning and afternoon, with light winds continuing to keep things on the cool side rather than wild or blustery.
The second half of the week offers only a brief break. Thursday is shaping up as the most settled day in the forecast, with partly cloudy conditions, just a slight chance of a shower, and a top of 19 degrees.
By Friday, the chance of showers rises again under partly cloudy skies, with winds turning north to northwesterly at 15 to 20km/h before shifting west to northwesterly during the morning. Adelaide is forecast to reach 19 degrees after a minimum of 11. Saturday keeps the damp finish to the week going, with a high chance of showers, a cooler westerly breeze at 15 to 25km/h, and a top of 19 degrees. Rainfall totals of 1 to 7mm are possible, making it another day to keep wet-weather plans handy.
Across South Australia, the broader picture is also dominated by a slow-moving system keeping conditions cool and showery. A cold front is stalling over central parts of the state today as a low pressure system develops near Kangaroo Island, before moving north over the Eyre Peninsula early in the week and weakening as it tracks into New South Wales. That pattern is set to spread showers across much of the state through to midweek, with the southern agricultural areas most likely to see the most reliable rain. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible about the Eyre Peninsula and West Coast on Monday, and over the North East Pastoral District on Tuesday. Rainfall totals to Wednesday are expected to be lighter through the pastoral districts, generally 1 to 5mm, though isolated thunderstorm falls could reach 15mm. Elsewhere, 5 to 15mm is forecast across the agricultural areas and west coast, increasing to 15 to 25mm across western Eyre Peninsula. Maximum temperatures statewide are expected to stay below average for the next few days before edging closer to normal later in the week.
Strong wind warnings remain in place for South Australia’s Lower West Coast and Central Coast, with hazardous marine conditions expected to continue. There is also a flood warning in place for Inland Rivers SA, as elevated river levels persist along the Warburton River at Poothapoootha and the lower Cooper Creek near Innamincka throughout May.
