The winners of the 2025 Adelaide Hills Wine Show have been revealed, celebrating the very best wines and producers coming out of this fantastic region. Chardonnay completed a hat trick, taking out the prestigious Best Wine of Show for the third consecutive year, while Gamay made history by claiming the title of Best Red Wine of Show for the very first time.
This year’s top gong went to Murdoch Hill’s 2024 Tilbury Chardonnay, a wine that dominated the awards from the very beginning. In addition to being named Best Wine of Show, it also secured Best White Wine, Best Chardonnay and Best Single Vineyard Wine. The judges described this year’s Chardonnay class as nothing short of exceptional, with Chair of Judges Erin Larkin saying, “Expectations are high around Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and sparkling, within a region capable of high calibre examples like the Adelaide Hills, however, these lofty expectations were all but blown out of the water during the 2025 show. The top six Chardonnays were outstanding, with the Murdoch Hill wine rising to the fore– it was classy in every way; a great Chardonnay with global relevance.”

This year’s Chardonnays impressed the judging panel with freshness, finesse and skilful winemaking across a range of styles. Judges noted that the top six Chardonnays were sophisticated, beautifully crafted and showcased the quality of fruit that defines the Adelaide Hills. While Murdoch Hill ultimately took the top spot, several others also reflected the region’s strength in one of Australia’s most competitive varieties.
Another exciting shift in this year’s show came from the red-wine camp. Worlds Apart’s 2025 ‘Blue Eyes’ Gamay claimed the trophy for Best Red Wine of Show, an award traditionally dominated by Shiraz. Gamay is experiencing a rise in popularity across the Adelaide Hills, with plantings increasing and producers refining their approach. Adelaide Hills Wine Region President Alex Trescowthick shared, “Gamay is a rising star in the Adelaide Hills Wine Region. There’s real excitement about what this variety can achieve here. Vine plantings are increasing, and our producers are sharing their knowledge with each other so that, as a region, our expertise in this variety is growing exponentially. The Adelaide Hills Wine Show is the only wine show in Australia to have a dedicated class for Gamay, and after only three years of this separate class, it’s a delightful surprise that the Best Gamay of Show – Worlds Apart 2025 ‘Blue Eyes’ Gamay – has been chosen as Best Red Wine of Show.”
Among other major winners, Lobethal Road’s 2021 Maja Blanc de Blancs took home Best Sparkling Wine of Show, Longview Vineyard was named Best Producer over 100 tonnes, and Ashton Hills claimed Best Producer under 100 tonnes.
This year’s show saw 626 wines entered by 102 exhibitors, each assessed blind by judges who tasted and scored without knowing the identity of the wines. The Adelaide Hills Wine Show began in 1997, and continues to highlight the region’s best producers and wines.
With Chardonnay continuing its reign and Gamay emerging as the new red to watch, the Adelaide Hills is proving yet again that it’s a region shaping the future of Australian wine.
